The CHORD project partners present typical Mediterranean products in The Museo dell’Enogastronomia in Salopaca

08/09/2011 - Salopaca (Province of Benevento) (Italy)

In conjunction with the 34th Festa dell'Uva, an annual grape festival held in the wine-growing town of Solopaca attracting over 50,000 visitors every year, the Museo dell'Enogastronomia is hosting an exhibition of typical Mediterranean products from areas involved in the CHORD project. Lead partner in the project, co-financed by the European Union as part of the MED programme, is the Benevento Provincial Council.

A number of promotional corners will be set up in the museum’s cellars showcasing tourism, cultural heritage, and food & wine from the Benevento area, Basilicata (San Severino Lucano and the Parco del Pollino), Greece (Region of East Macedonia-Thrace and the Island of Chios), Spain (Seville, Ribera Alta and Ceutí), and France.

On Saturday 10 September from 5 to 9 pm and Sunday 11 September from 9 am to 9 pm, visitors to Solopaca will have the chance to enjoy tastings of locally produced food and wines from these regions.

The CHORD project will be coming to a close on 15 September, marked by a press conference to be held in Brussels. The aim of the initiative has been to promote each of the areas involved, all located around the Mediterranean basin. Each one has a vast cultural heritage which, if properly promoted, can become a driver for economic growth.

The Province of Benevento has a particularly rich and varied heritage of its own: historic sites and monuments, archaeological treasures, areas of natural beauty, museums, traditional food products and local crafts. As part of the CHORD project, these resources have been grouped into one Cultural District divided into four sub-areas:

  • Benevento and the Colline Beneventane
  • Taburno
  • Titerno
  • Alto Sannio, Valle del Tammaro, Fortore.

Five cultural poles have been identified within the District and its four sub-areas: Archaeology, History and Art, Nature and Landscape, Villages and Crafts, and Food and Wine.
